While it is possible to grow carrots without any other plants near them, you would still miss out on various benefits that come along with companion planting and you would also not use your space as efficiently as possible.
Good companion plants are great since they can provide shade, loosen the soil, attract pollinators and deter pests.
In turn, your carrots will grow in a better manner and your yields will also likely be higher as well.
Please note that not all plants will have those beneficial characteristics.
